Star Trek III: The Search For Spock literally continues where Star Trek II left off. Spock gave his life to save the Enterprise and everybody on it from the detonation of The Genesis Device, which terraforms a planet. Bones becomes unstable and forces the doors open to Spock's quarters and thinks that he is Spock. Sarek plans to revive Spock and insists that Kirk goes on a voyage to find him to heal Spock and Bones. Spock has transfered all of his thoughts into Bones, and Bones can not handle all of that information. One of the Admirals interferes and also says that The Enterprise should be scrapped. Kirk and much of The Enterprise's senior staff board The Enterprise and embark on the journey. Because the instability and the misuse of The Genesis Device could be extremely harmful, The Klingons think the device is a weapon to destroy The Klingon Empire, and travel into Federation Space to steal it. The Genesis Device has also restored Spock, who is rapidly aging and doesn't know very much since he is young and his memories are still inside Bones. The Klingons destroy the science vessel that Saavik and David are on, and end up killing David while Kirk overhears. Kirk tricks the Klingons by setting The Enterprise on auto destruct. All but one Klingon dies, who requests that Kirk kills him. Kirk asks about this and the Klingon replies "I Do Not Deserve To Live." Kirk responds by saying "Fine, I'll Kill You Later." and then later he asks again "Wait. You Said You Would Kill Me." and Kirk responds as "I Lied." They continue on their stolen Klingon ship to planet Vulcan, where T'Lar performs the transfer of Spock's thoughts from Bones to Spock. They both awake as themselves spend time on Vulcan to recover.

Robin Curtis is now portraying Saavik, whose hairstyle and eye color has changed (possibly because of the 1980s hair styles. Grace Lee Whitney appears in this film with a different hair style than she normally has probably since Star Trek III and Star Trek IV both were made in the 1980s. Kirstie Alley as Saavik did not have as much of the thick pointy eyebrows as the rest of the vulcans.

Carl Steven, Vadia Potenza, Stephen Manley, Joe W. Davis, and Leonard Nimoy were all Spock.

Gary Faga and Douglas Alan Shanklin were the prision guards.
